Opti-M is one of the oldest formulas in the Bio-Gestion range, the result of a long-studied composition: an Atlantic seaweed, a product of the hive and two B vitamins, complemented by soy protein isolate and organic acacia gum.
Each of these ingredients has its own story, and is worth a closer look.
Laminaria digitata is a large brown seaweed found along the coasts of the North Atlantic and the English Channel. It is recognisable by its blade cut into strips, hence its name, digitata, finger-shaped. It grows in the zone uncovered at low tide and can reach several metres in length.
Harvesting it is an ancient tradition: in Brittany, the seaweed harvesters, or goémoniers, gathered it from their boats using a long hooked pole called a scoubidou.
A delightful detail: iodine was discovered thanks to seaweed. In 1811, the chemist Bernard Courtois was working on seaweed ash when he saw intensely violet vapours rising from it.
The element took its name from this, formed from the Greek iodês: violet.
Royal jelly is secreted by young worker bees from glands located in their heads. It feeds the very young larvae and, exclusively, the queen, throughout her life.
It is a rare substance: a hive produces only small quantities, which explains its value. It contains a molecule found nowhere else in nature, 10-HDA, often used as a marker of quality and authenticity.
In Opti-M, it is present in freeze-dried form, at 75 mg per daily dose.
They are the ingredients behind most of what can be claimed, and the amounts they provide are substantial: a daily dose provides 1 mg of vitamin B6, i.e. 71% of the recommended daily allowances, and 1.5 µg of vitamin B12, i.e. 60% of the RDA.
B12 deserves particular attention: it is found only in animal products, and its absorption decreases with age. We have devoted a full article to it on our blog.
Soy protein isolate (225 mg per daily dose) is a plant source of amino acids, including the essential amino acids that the body cannot make itself.
Organic acacia gum is the most abundant ingredient by volume. Obtained from the sap of the acacia tree, it is a natural soluble fibre and one of the oldest known food ingredients: the Egyptians were already using it. Here it serves as a carrier for the formula.
