Screens and eyes: our everyday tips

In our modern, technology-driven world, constant exposure to various screens for work, study, and entertainment has a considerable effect on our visual health, frequently causing what's known as digital eye strain.

We live in a world where the use of technology is everywhere. Whether for work, study, or entertainment, we spend countless hours staring at screens. This behaviour has a major impact on our visual health, often leading to what's known as digital eye strain. In this article, we'll discuss the health of our eyes.

Understanding digital eye strain

Digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome, occurs when our eyes become tired from excessive use of digital screens. Symptoms include dry, irritated eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and even neck and shoulder pain. The workload placed on our eyes by long hours spent in front of a screen, combined with excessive exposure to blue light, can have negative effects on our visual health in the long term.

Tips for protecting your eye health

There are several steps you can take to reduce the impact of digital eye strain and improve the health of your eyes.

  • Take regular breaks: The 20-20-20 rule is an excellent way to rest your eyes. Every 20 minutes, look away from the screen for 20 seconds and look at something about 20 feet away.
  • Adjust your environment: Make sure your screen is at an appropriate distance and angle to avoid eye strain. You can also adjust your screen's brightness and contrast to minimise eye fatigue.
  • Take care of your diet: Eating foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E is part of a balanced diet; vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. Think carrots, spinach, oranges, and almonds.

Protecting the health of our eyes in today's digital environment is essential. It's crucial to adopt healthy habits, and remember that every small action counts when it comes to taking care of your eyes. So start today, and your eyes will thank you tomorrow.
