In autumn, the bogs are flooded. Machines stir the water to knock the berries loose, and because each cranberry contains \u003cb\u003esmall pockets of air\u003c\/b\u003e, they all rise to the surface. The fields are then covered with a bright red carpet, which is gathered in with large floating booms.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese air pockets have another amusing effect: a fresh, firm cranberry bounces.
